Dobrozsi Family's Middletown Roots
The Dobrozsi family emigrated to the United States from Hungary. John Sr and his wife, Bertha, opened a grocery store in Middletown Ohio. They had four sons and one daughter. Each went on to live in Middletown Ohio and supported the local community. Frank became the Middletown Post Master. Bertha (daughter) and Andy ran the family grocery store. John and Emrie started their own businesses.
Dobrozsi Starts in the Insurance Business
The year was 1943 when John Dobrozsi, Jr., started in the insurance business working from his home at 216 Bellemonte Street in Middletown. His wife Dorothy also worked in the business. In 1952, Emrie, John’s brother, joined the business which had located on Central Avenue. In 1953 they incorporated the business to become John Dobrozsi Jr. Insurance Agency Inc. In July of 1955, they moved the business to 1820 First Avenue, Middletown, where it is today.
More Dobrozsis Join the Business
John’s son, Ed, joined the business in 1971. Three of Emrie’s children also joined the business, Steve in 1973, Larry in 1978, and Barb in 1981. Steve has since retired.
Dobrozsi Insurance Today
Ed, Larry and Barb are active in insurance professional organizations, including The Independent Insurance Agents of Middletown, Ohio Insurance Agents, The Ohio Insurance Institute, and the Big I national organization IIABA. These professional organizations provide information for licensing and professional development.
Ed, Larry and Barb are also involved in local charities and community organizations. Among those are the Safety Council of Southwest Ohio, Knights of Columbus, Big Brothers & Sisters of Middletown, Neighborhood Watch, The Moose, The Eagles, The Elks, and Kiwanis. They personally and professionally support Bishop Fenwick Catholic High School, St. John XXIII Catholic School and are members of Holy Family Parish.
